This spell
is ideal for somebody who is concerned with the security of his home.
The material components are the eye of some creature and a square of finest
silk. Both will be destroyed.
While reciting the spell, you must use the cloth to polish the target
area (this has to be an area of stone, wood, or metal about 6 inches square),
the cloth and the eye are then burned to ash in a copper bowl. This
will cause a translucent sphere of force, similar in size to the eye,
to appear next to the polished surface and sink into it. A command
word must be specified when the spell is cast, and a set of activation
conditions which must be no more than twenty words in total, such as "Activate
whenever anybody other than myself enters this room."
Whenever
the activation conditions are met, the sphere will record all events within
it's field of view (a 60 foot long cone extending out perpendicular to
the surface the sphere is concealed within), for as long as the conditions
persist. It can make several recordings, with a total duration equal
to 1 hour, plus 15 minutes per Caster Level.
To review the recordings, the caster simply touches the surface and speaks
the command word. This causes the sphere to push back out of the
surface and into his hand. By touching the sphere to his forehead
and concentrating, the caster can see everything that the sphere has recorded.
This viewing takes place in chronological sequence. Sections cannot
be skipped, and once viewed cannot be returned to later (in other words:
no fast-forward, no rewind). The viewing can be stopped at any time,
and resumed later from the point where it left off. The sphere cannot
be returned to its hiding place, and will vanish when it replays its last
recorded sequence.
The sphere
will have the same optical abilities as the original eye, eg:
Darkvision, but will not possess
any attack modes, such as Gaze effects.
